💛 the opportunities you let go and the ones you have welcomed to be a mami
💛 your unconditional love towards esos hijxs de su madre 😂.
💛 showing up every day even when you don't feel like it
💛 not doing what others expect you to do, or for doing what others don't expect you to do

Melinda decided to turn the page on her marriage 🤯. Here are 3 financial facts of the Gateses:

1️⃣ Bill, Melinda and Warren Buffett co-created the GIVING PLEDGE- a program that requires participants to give away more than 50% of their wealth. Today, the #givingpledge includes more than 200 of the world's wealthiest individuals, couples and families.

2️⃣ In 2015, Melinda created Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation company to foster equality for women and families in the US.

3️⃣ Bill is the world's 4th richest person. Together, Bill and Melinda have a net worth of more than $130 Billion.

The financial implications of their divorce are not clear.

Back to the topic of this post: ⁠The person you see in this picture is a regular human like you. Someone who didn't know about money before she HAD TO DEAL WITH IT AS AN ADULT. ⁠

I went to college to create my “American dream". The one people told me about when I came to the US. So I joined the "real adult world" in 2015 with a Bachelor in Business/Accounting, a Master in Taxation and $75,000 #delosverdes of student debt 😩.⁠

I hustled my way to an accounting firm that paid me $55,000 anually as a tax associate. I thought I was RICH! Up until that time, nobody I grew up with had such a "GREAT INCOME". But 6 months after graduation I learned that I was going to work to pay for debt. I was devastated! It wasn't my American dream after all. ⁠

Fast forward, I became debt free on March 4th. I still can't believe it! so the first thing I did to celebrate this huge milestone was to schedule a photoshoot to highlight this new chapter - Laura, la mujer libre de deudas y MUJER RICA in the making 😉. ⁠

The benefits of not having debt are many. Maybe for you its a vacation, a car, buying a house, retiring your parents from work, leaving a job or career you hate, or a simple treat like a photoshoot. Whatever your heart desires, I'm here to tell you: It's possible and your wishes and dreams are VALID.⁠ Give yourself permission to have a life designed by YOU and FOR YOU. You only die ONCE, but you LIVE MANY TIMES. ⁠

Story time ✨ The stories in your head will set you free! Save this post and keep reading 👇🏽.

April is Financial Literacy Month 😁 and instead of spamming you with financial concepts I will tell you about my money story.

Recuerda💡I want you to save, invest and live your best life, but before you wonder why you aren't earning enough, why you are spending like there's no tomorrow,, or you are giving your time/ money away for free, please EXAMINE YOUR MONEY STORY. Here is mine:

I was born in San Cristóbal, República Dominicana 🇩🇴. I was raised by a single mother and a grandmother whose mother also raised her on her own. What 🤨? Yes, It's a story you are probably familiar with.

Money was limited. I remember I used to save a portion of my already limited “school recesses" money or “la merienda" as we call it in the DR, for future days because I knew at some point the money mami sent from the US would run out.

This reality shaped my financial mindset. I thought of money as something hard to get, and that it went away easily. Over time, it made me treat money from a place of SCARCITY. I saved money like a squirrel 🐿️ saves her nuts, and didn't allow myself to fully enjoy some of my money.

A scarcity mindset held me back for a while 👎🏽 It made me spend of cheap clothes instead of good quality ones that could last a long time👎🏽 It made me not invest for retirement because I wanted to have money in the present instead.👎🏽 It also made me less generous with others because i was too afraid of not having enough for myself. Most importantly, it prevented me from believing I can make more money and live my best life 😭.

I'm in a much better place now 🙌🏽. Therapy, books, podcasts and coaching, changed my life, but one of my favorite tools to reframe my thoughts are AFFIRMATIONS. Slide the pictures 👆🏾 to see some of my favorites.
